I didn’t know it then, but that early introduction into the often intimidating world of money would be what sparked my passion.
But here’s the truth: It’s much easier to know what to do, than to actually do it…
In adulthood, that ugly truth hit me. Despite a steadily rising income, I was living beyond my means. I booked trips that I couldn’t afford, treated myself to nice restaurants, and enjoyed expensive nights out in the city often. I thought, I make good money, I should enjoy it! I was spending money without any awareness of where it was all going. Before I knew it, I was staring at a mountain of five-figure credit card debt. I felt trapped, overwhelmed, and even guilty, for living the life I wanted, and I thought I could afford. I had lost control, and knew I needed to make a change.
In that moment of realization, I remembered those kitchen table lessons, the simple, yet powerful truths my mother had taught me. So I went back to the basics, and I built a plan to take control of my finances. Within the next three years, my mountain of debt was paid off, my student loans were paid off early, I grew a six-month emergency fund, and I had a thriving retirement account. I had reclaimed my life.
Along my journey, I saw a pattern. Brilliant, capable women, trapped in a cycle of financial stress. The difference? They didn’t have the tools, knowledge, or passion that I did to make the powerful changes they wanted. That’s when SRW Financial Solutions was born.
